Founded under the auspices of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church, the school was part of a broader mission to provide accessible education to Ghanaian communities. Over the decades, it has nurtured numerous students, many of whom have gone on to contribute significantly to various sectors in Ghana.Swedru AME Zion 'B' Basic School, one of the foundational educational institutions in Agona Swedru, recently hosted a heartwarming send-off ceremony in honor of Hon. Eric Gyamfi Odoom, following his appointment as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Agona West Municipal Assembly.
Hon. Odoom, a respected former staff member of the school, received glowing tributes from teachers, pupils, and community members for his dedication and humble service during his time at the school. His elevation to the office of MCE was hailed as a proud moment, not just for the school, but for the entire Swedru community.
During his remarks, Hon. Odoom expressed sincere appreciation to the school for its role in his growth and leadership journey. He emphasized his strong emotional connection to the school and assured the staff and students that he would use his office to support the school—particularly in the area of infrastructure development. He acknowledged the existing challenges and pledged to advocate for improvements to enhance teaching and learning.He also took the opportunity to encourage parents in the municipality to enroll their children in Swedru AME Zion 'B' Basic School, emphasizing its legacy of discipline, quality teaching, and community impact.
The event was marked by performances, speeches, and presentations that celebrated both the achievements of Hon. Odoom and the unity of the school community. It served not only as a farewell but also as a powerful reminder of the impact educators can make—and how one of their own has risen to lead.
As the school sends forth one of its own into higher leadership, the ceremony closed with prayers and renewed hope for a brighter future for both Hon. Odoom and Swedru AME Zion 'B' Basic School.
