Teachers Avoid Postings to Kwadwomo Community Due to Accommodation Crisis

Bono Region, Ghana – The Kwadwomo community in the Bono Region is facing a growing educational challenge as teachers posted or transferred to the area continue to reject their postings, citing a lack of accommodation and the long commuting distance from nearby towns.

According to local education officials, many teachers who are assigned to the community schools either delay reporting or never take up the post at all. “The few who report often struggle to stay because there are no proper housing facilities, and traveling daily from other towns is simply not sustainable,” a district director stated.

Residents say the shortage of teachers is affecting the quality of education for children in the area. “Our children are eager to learn, but the teachers don’t stay. It’s frustrating,” said Ama Serwaa, a parent in Kwadwomo.

The kwadwomo Community is trying to build 10 bedroom structure for teachers transferred to the community school to teach.
The project has been at a standstill for almost 2 years and the rains are washing the structure off.

We need an immediate support to complete the room floors and plastering works.

The community is calling on the government and NGOs to prioritize teacher accommodation projects in the area. Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service is reportedly looking into temporary solutions, including transport support and incentivized postings.
