STMA Mayor, Lawyer FF Faidoo, Acts to Ease Kojokrom Road Traffic After Viral Video

Image
Following a viral video posted yesterday exposing the poor state of the Kojokrom road and the heavy traffic it caused, the Mayor of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Lawyer FF Faidoo, has moved quickly to tackle the problem. This morning, under the Mayor’s instructions, the Department of Urban Roads began temporary reshaping works on the affected section. The works involve dredging, grading, leveling, and filling major potholes to improve traffic flow and ease delays for commuters and residents. The Mayor personally visited the site to oversee the emergency intervention, stressing that while this is only a short-term fix, a permanent reconstruction is already being planned in collaboration with the Ministry of Roads and Highways. He also expressed gratitude to the CEO of JustMoh Company for supporting the effort by supplying a 0-40 stone base to fill damaged portions of the road. Scenes from the Agona Abodom festival moments before and after rival factions clashed.

What started as a vibrant, joyous celebration in the town of Agona Abodom took a heartbreaking turn when clashes broke out between rival factions during the annual festival. The event, known for bringing together families, friends, and communities in a colorful display of culture and unity, ended in violence, panic, and widespread concern.

The festival had begun peacefully, with traditional performances, music, and a strong sense of pride among attendees. Crowds filled the streets, dancing and sharing in the excitement. However, beneath the surface, tensions between opposing groups had been quietly building — and by afternoon, those tensions erupted into open confrontation.

Captured in Real Time
Photos and videos from the scene (included below) show the stark contrast: smiling faces in the morning, then fear, confusion, and chaos as the day wore on. Screams replaced songs, and what was once a celebration quickly became a scene of people fleeing, shouting, and trying to avoid danger.

Eyewitnesses described the moment things turned:

"It was sudden — one moment we were dancing, the next, people were running. We didn’t even know what had started it."
Calls for Peace and Accountability

Local leaders and elders have since condemned the violence, urging residents to remain calm and allow the authorities to carry out their investigations. Security forces arrived to restore order and are currently working to identify the instigators of the unrest.

A Community in Reflection
The aftermath has left many in shock. Agona Abodom is a town proud of its heritage, and the festival is meant to celebrate peace, not be overshadowed by violence. For many, this incident has become a painful reminder of how quickly division can tear through even the most joyful occasions.

Yet, there is hope that this moment can serve as a turning point — a call for deeper unity, conflict resolution, and stronger community dialogue moving forward.

Conclusion
As you scroll through the images and videos from the event, we invite you to reflect: What can be done to ensure that such a scene never repeats? How can we, as a community, protect our traditions from being consumed by conflict?

Let this serve not only as a report of what happened — but as a reminder of what must never happen again.
